Produced by Djanimals (formerly Danimals), 1942 sees Aussie hip hop entering a new territory, a territory rife with spacey Fly-Lo-esque beats and confessional lyrics. Chocolate Jesus co-founder Jasper Clifford Smith’s solo porject, the song showcases a side to the Warhorse frontman most wouldn’t have seen before, and that those of us who’ve become accustomed to such delicate work as ‘Fucked Cunts Get Fucked’ or ‘Fuck You You Fucking Cunts’ coming out of him might have to take some time to get used to.
With the forthcoming album, due mid next year, set to feature some of Sydney’s best producers including Roleo, Balls Deep and Moses MacRae on top of Djanimals, White Ox promises to deliver and interesting perspective on Aussie hip hop, pushing it’s boundaries and seeing how far the fence will bend.
And with the Kush mixtape also in the works there doesn’t look set to be any shortage of White Ox in the area.
